Correspondence and papers, 1846-1863 (bulk 1861-1863). Most of the material is related to his work as Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st Sharpshooters Regiment, and includes returns of supplies and ordnance stores, receipts, despatches, muster rolls, reports on target practice, an invoice for recruiting expenses, and other official documents, as well as some personal letters and notes. Several manuscript maps show the regiment's positions in battle. Correspondence includes letters from the Swiss Consul in Washington, mostly in German, and a letter discussing why he believed Hiram Berdan should should be court martialed, as well as some letters in which Trepp tried unsuccessfully to resign from the regiment. There are papers related to Trepp's own court martial, and various other miscellaneous items: Trepp's Swiss passport, dated 1846; a burlesque of a Latin inscription, dated 1856 and commemorating his work building a road with the British Foreign Legion; and printed ephemera, including an envelope with a Confederate poem and engraving.
